Gabriel Yafet is a Texas-based tenor, composer, producer, and sacred storyteller with roots in Monterrey, Mexico. He began singing professionally at age nine and was accepted as the only child member of the Compañía de Ópera Metropolitana under Eric Steinman, performing as a boy soprano in Gian Carlo Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors and Chip and His Dog. His early musical life included opera outreach concerts, sacred music, zarzuela seasons, televised performances, and appearances at major venues including Teatro de la Ciudad, Arena Monterrey, and the Hollywood Bowl.
As a tenor, Gabriel has performed works ranging from Handel’s Messiah and Ramírez’s Misa Criolla to operatic recitals, musical theater, sacred concerts, and classical-crossover programs. His formation includes studies in voice, music, composition, and orchestration, with training through UANL, ITESM, UCLA-related coursework, and teachers including Susan Young, Gilda Cruz Romo, and Manuel Acosta.
Gabriel is the creator, composer, and producer of The Light Was Born, an original sacred Christmas musical for Midland, Odessa, and the Permian Basin. The production brings the Nativity to life through original music, beloved Christmas carols, operatic voices, drama, choreography, and cinematic theatrical design. Through this work, Gabriel seeks to create more than a performance: a sacred encounter with the beauty, wonder, and hope of the first Christmas.
Following the success of previous Christmas productions that nearly sold out regional venues, The Light Was Born represents his most ambitious and emotionally resonant project yet — a story designed to move audiences, uplift families, and illuminate the true heart of the Christmas season.
